“The Fraternity Towards Fifty”

Towards a New Paradigm Tau Gamma Phi

Leaders create the culture of an organization. Culture translates into the core values and belief systems that define the character of an organization. Belief systems can be categorized into three major groups: politics, policies and principles.

In a policy-driven organization, leaders believe that their job is to define the organizational structure, establish clear lines of authority and control, set the policies and rules that guide behavior and delegate authority to people within those defined boundaries. Accountability is high and members work within the limits of the organization.

Each of these styles has its own consequences. Each approach carries with it a different kind of performance for the organization. Most leaders ultimately realize that they get the organization that they create or deserve.

Politically-driven leaders create an organization in which the members preserve their own security by demonstrating their personal loyalty, bringing all information and situations back to the leader. For them, "there is no box."

Policy-based leaders create an organization in which members perform very well but only within the scope of their authority and by following the rules. They are empowered as long as they "play within the box".

Principle-based leaders create an organization in which members take initiative. They are encouraged to "think outside the box." What we frequently think of as a "stroke of genius" by "thinking out of the box" is merely principle-based leadership at work.

 "The Fraternity Towards Fifty"

In the next decade of our existence, we will strive to create a truly "principle-driven" Fraternity wherein all Triskelions are guided by a strong set of values, have a clear vision of the future and totally committed to attaining its goals.

Achieving such a kind of organizational environment requires that we become not just conscious of but actively committed to removing every obstacle, institution and practice that runs counter to becoming a truly "principle-driven" Tau Gamma Phi.

In every phase of membership and all the way up to being an alumnus/alumna–we must do way with existing trends and future threats to becoming "principle-driven" Triskelions.

Thank You, Bro. Mandy Alegre (Quetzal White), UP’80

Mandy is one among a handful of brods, who has a deep understanding of the dynamics of our present day organization…Mandy always remained within the bounds of reason and decency expected of a Triskelion. He will be truly missed. By FF Rod Confesor
