Round 1 meet on April 3

For the second time since 2005 again a group of Filipino Go Kart enthusiasts are raring to go in the First Round of “Pinoy Karting Championship 2009” in Bahrain . The event is sanctioned and will run under the supervision of Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF), utilizing trained marshals from the affiliated Motorsports Marshals Club.

The event will have its first preliminary round on April 3, starting at 3pm to 6pm. at the Adhari Park Karting Track. The event is composed of 14 Filipino drivers representing different teams.

“It all started when the Project Coordinator, Mr. Bobby Calimoso approached BMF General Manager Mr. Abdul Aziz Al Thawadi inquiring whether it is possible to include Pinoy Karting Race in their race event calendar”, said BMF Operation Manager Jasim Ebrahim. “What convinced BMF was within a short period, the group has gathered enough individuals to plan a championship race meant for Filipinos. The unity and camaraderie they have shown in each of the practice sessions was persuasive,” said Ebrahim.

Adhari is supplying its race-ready fleet of single engine 9 horsepower Pro-Karts and computerized timing system. BMF will provide trained race officials and marshals to ensure a professionally conducted inaugural Pinoy Karting Championship. Race day has been planned to offer practice, qualifying session and a final 2 sets of race-15 laps each race for all participants.

Event Project Co-ordinator Bobby Calimoso said, “It was just an ordinary fun race at the beginning, where the idea was brought up to have it again the Pinoy Karting Championship 2009 since the last project in 2005.” Calimoso added, “seeing much enthusiasm among the drivers, we initiated to go to BMF and requested to have our own championship race, of course under their supervision.”

“Within short notice, Filipino drivers gathered together at the Adhari Park Karting Track to show their support” he said.
