The Reason for the Season…

The Christmas season is taking its toll once again. Despite all the Christmas Frenzy, I hope we have not really forgotten what Christmas is all about.

On 28th December, a post Christmas presentation will be staged at The Palace Bahrain (formerly Palace Inn). Our chosen piece "Nosibasila" is a 1-hour musical comedy play depicting the Philippine’s heritage, culture and traditions thru groovy musical arrangements weaved in a satiric love story about the forgotten characters of Classic Philippine Literature. Combining the literary pillars of the different Philippine eras: Pre-colonial Spanish, Spanish rule, Post-colonial, American rule; We shall bring into life famous Filipino   characters like Tuwaang, Bantugan, Lam-ang, Maria Clara, Urbana, Felisa and Juan Abad’s Tanikalang Guinto as they unveil the lessons of freedom, patriotism, social justice, and independence in a funny-heartfelt twist of events.   Also featuring revivals of long forgotten 70’s hits/favorites which we want to pass on to the next generations: Ikaw ang Miss Universe, Dito ba?, Sayang, Manila/Manila, Magsimula Ka, Nais Ko, Katawan, Nosi ba lasi.

All funds raised through this production will be donated to causes supported by the OWWA. Buy a ticket now - your BD1 will make a lot of Filipinos happy this Christmas.

Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon!

Charity show a huge draw
MANAMA

More than 1,000 people attended a Tagalog musical comedy last night at The Palace hotel’s Falcon Hall. The show, organised by Bahrain-based Phenomena Productions, hoped to raise BD2,000 that will be donated to the Philippine Embassy’s Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

Entitled Nosi Ba Sila (The Return of the Forgotten), the play was a one-hour musical comedy that celebrates Filipino heritage, culture and traditions using musical arrangements that weave in a satiric love story about the forgotten characters of classic Filipino literature. The event also featured a photo exhibition entitled Filipino Lifestyle in Bahrain that depicts a number of aspects associated with Filipinos in GCC countries.

Filipino Bands rocked fans at the Delmon International Hotel on sunday Bands rock in music for charity event night in a music for charity event aimed at raising funds to help poor families in the Philippines.

Hundreds came to watch the event and joined the programme aimed at providing the finishing touches to the “Bahrain Village” project of the Gawad Kalinga Bahrain which provided 40 houses for poor families.

“This is the biggest charity concert that we have held since the Gawad Kalinga project started,” said Roger Coronel, head of the Gawad Kalinga in Bahrain

The Gawad Kalinga is a Philippine international movement working for the provision of houses to poor families.

The concert was staged with the Triskelion International in Bahrain.

The concert also raised funds to bankroll the Triskelion project to support “Tuloy Aral” (continue schooling) for poor Filipino children in cooperation with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.

Also included in the programme was an auction of Christmas lanterns prepared by inmates at the shelter of the Philippine Embassy.

Coronel said that the “Bahrain Village” in southern Philippines, located in the Mindanao region, will be inaugurated by early next year.

This is the third time that the GK and the Triskelion held a charity concert in Bahrain.

Seven of the best Filipino bands from the different hotels in Bahrain participated in the concert. “It is a worthwhile project and we are very happy to be performing in this concert,” said one band member.

One step towards a unified global outreach – the Filipino Strength

"One step towards a unified global outreach – the Filipino Strength" was the theme of the Dental Outreach and On-the-Spot painting contest last November 30, 2007 at the grounds of the Philippine School (Bahrain). The Principal, Dr. Geronimo R. Salem shared his thoughts about the true meaning of outreach by the example of the organizers who were able to spend their precious time and efforts on such activities that benefit the majority of people in all walks of life and to reach out to their "Kababayans" even in a very simple way.

The Triskelions of the TI-Bahrain Council would like to congratulate all those who participated in the contest especially the winners and would like to mention in grateful acknowledgement the participation of the Judges, parents, students, Gulf Photographers Network, and the support of our sponsors such as Al Abraaj Restaurant and volunteer dentists Dr. Liza Siwa and Dr. Sonny Dipasupil who are still willing to share and care for the next outreach programs in development.

This event has been a part of the expanded activities of the Triskelion International – Kingdom of Bahrain that started with a Medical Mission at the premises of the POLO/OWWA, Philippine Embassy(Bahrain) last November 9, 2007 and will culminate with a film showing of "Care Home" (www.carehomethemovie.com) next year.
