Muharraq, Bahrain (Aug 24). More than 1,000 people attended yesterday’s opening day. Present were Philippine ambassador to Bahrain Eduardo Pablo Maglaya, Rev Fr Uldarico C. Camus of Sacred Heart Church, acting Filipino Club president Cecille Ignalaga, and general manager of Smart Remit Middle East Rey Uy.

Thirty-five teams have signed up to compete in two divisions, including nine teams in the premier division for the Ambassador’s Cup and another 26 teams in the first division for the Filipino Club President’s Cup.

The tournament consists of two categories. The first category, the premier league for the Ambassador’s Cup, constists of eight teams – DHL High Flyer, New Jumbo Jewelers, Barangay Manama, Philippine Team, Hungry Hamoor, JLV Popsy Duty Free, Cellucum and Filipino-American Association.  The second category, the first division for the Filipino Club President’s Cup, comprises 26 teams – Cebarco WCT, Hot Shot Restaurant/Bulakeno, Askal, Shaflout Restaurant, DHL Roadnetwork, Illongo Forex Elite, Lea Boutique, Red House Consulting, Bahrain Precast, Polar Mines Realty Ventures Inc., Intensity, I remit, Al Hamad Construction, Saudi Designer World Zone Video, Shade Corp, Cathay Pacific, Triskelion Network, Cueinn Snooker and Billiards / Dilu Jewelers, Ramsis Engineering, APM Terminals, Seven Seas, Mindoro Grizzlers, Hackers, Pilipinas, Aviators and AMS 9 Balls Billiards & Restaurant.

Entrance fee is 200 fills (members) 300 fills (non-members) and proceeds will be given to the tournament’s beneficiaries - the Filipino Club, Sagip Kapamilya ABS/CBN and Gawad Kalinga.

Patrimonio to head Purefoods delegation 

PHILIPPINE basketball legend Alvin Patrimonio will be part of the Purefoods Chunkee Giants delegation that will be arriving later this month for the fifth Bahrain-Philippines Goodwill Games, the Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) confirmed.
