THE SCENT OF " PINOY aroma" has once again lingered around Bahrain’s social scene as hundred of Filipinos gather to celebrate the Fiesta Ng OWWA 2007 last May 25,2007 at the Delmon International Hotel, Manama, Bahrain.

The event organized by Tau Gamma Phi and Tau Gamma Sigma of Triskelion International Kingdom of Bahrain in collaboration with POLO-OWWA, Philippine Embassy, Smart Remit, Filipino Club and Caravan Group of Hotels has been successful in raising funds for the purpose of sending potential out of school juveniles to study again in the Philippines.

The Filipino’s Bayanihan was once again relived to give aid to our deprived kababayans back home.

The Fiesta ng OWWA was started off of the parade of the infamous Ati-atihan together with the tribal harmonies of thier drums and the cymbals bringing its spectators to great delight, following the hymns of the Philippine and Bahrain’s National Anthem.

Short speeches were given out from the representatives of Triskelion International and Filipino Club respectively had silence the audience. The arrival  of Philippine Embassy Ambassador Eduardo Pablo Maglaya, who fire out inspiring thoughts to his fellowmen heat up the whole place with much patriotism. After an atmosphere of surging heat the place cooled down as the Palarong Pilipino take place. Prices and gifts packs were given away to lucky winners.

Pinoy cuisine was a free treat to everyone. Sponsored by different Filipino restaurants. Food flooded the whole place giving a real "Pinas" ambience from well-known calderetang manok to steaming goto were served to satisfy everyones appetite.

Filipino talents will not miss out this kind of occasions. From modern to ballroom and even native Filipino dances were showcased. A total entertainment that once again proved the Filipino’s skill. But the fun doesn’t  stop here; the grand finale showcased the Pinay beauties in the legendary Flores de Mayo, 15 muses compete for one title. The victorious Flores de Mayo, Queen Rochelle Malanque rise.

Parade of muses: Sagala princess Michelle Malanque and her escort parade along the central Manama area yesterday in front of the Delmon International Hotel in the festive celebration of the 25th year of the Philippine Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. What Is The “Bagong Tao Movement”?

The Bagong Tao Movement (BTM) is a party-list duly accredited with the COMELEC for the forthcoming May (2004) 2007 elections and who seeks to represent the aspirations and objectives of the Filipino youth and the urban poor. It was founded in 2003 by college graduates of the University of the Philippines (Diliman, Q.C.) who believe that before we can truly make any lasting changes in the socio-political and economic situation which the country badly needs today, there must, first of all, be a transformation of the hearts, minds and attitudes of the individual Filipino. BTM and its coalition partners firmly believe that if only the Filipino people who pride themselves to be the only Christian country in Asia,  would only practice what they supposedly believe either as Christians or even Moslems, then, we would not have the kind of graft and corruption so prevalent in our government along with the accompanying and pervading sense of immorality and depravity, violence and hate fueled by lingering hostilities and decades of attrition and a society beleaguered by greed, envy, bickering and selfish rivalries,  lack of self-discipline, lack of social consciousness and concern and a general sense of despair and hopelessness.

Sixteen party-list groups are on track to getting into Congress, led by Buhay and Bayan Muna that could each get the maximum three seats, based on the Commission on Elections’ partial official tally as of 6:15 p.m, Wednesday.

Buhay (845,540 votes), backed by Mike Velarde of the Catholic evangelical group El Shaddai, was on top with 8.4 percent of 10,070,691 party-list votes counted. The militant Bayan Muna (691,011) followed with 6.86 percent. Both party-list groups could each get three seats in the House of Representatives.

Cibac (493,923) took 4.9 percent, which would give it two seats.

On track to winning a seat each are 13 party-list groups: Gabriela (399,921), 3.97 percent; APEC (389,547), 3.87 percent; A Teacher (345,235), 3.43 percent; Alagad (333,264), 3.31 percent; Abono (324,631), 3.22 percent; Butil (313,840), 3.12 percent; Akbayan (288,829), 2.87 percent; AGAP (278,779), 2.77 percent; Anakpawis (258,810), 2.57 percent; Batas (258,804), 2.57 percent; ARC (255,023), 2.53 percent; Coop-Natco (250,178), 2.48 percent; and An Waray (203,745), 2.02 percent.

A group that receives 6 percent or more of party-list votes gets three seats in the House of Representatives. A group with at least 4 percent gets two seats, and one with at least 2 percent gets one seat.

The Comelec partial tally also showed that 77 other accredited groups have not received the minimum 2 percent of party-list votes.

In addition to more than 200 Representatives voted at the district level, there can be a maximum of 50 party-list seats in the House, although only close to half are typically filled following elections. -Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV http://www.pinoyvote.info/content/view/873/66/

A Hub Ahead

Prime Minister opens GFH Financial centre

A giant fiscal step for Bahrain

In an impressive and dramatic opening ceremony, the Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, declared open the Financial Centre at the BD567 million Bahrain Financial Harbour (BFH) yesterday (3/May/2007).

The glittering event was attended by several dignitaries. The Premier was received by Esam Yousif Janahi, Chairman of BFH – a hub that promises to be not just unique to the region but to the world of finance and will give Bahrain a major edge for the future.

Addressing the gathering, Janahi said: “The opening of the Financial Centre is a vivid example of the leadership’s support and commitment to the financial sector. The Kingdom’s financial sector has become one of the most rapidly growing segments of the national economy and the formal launch of the Financial Centre will provide a strong support to the overall development.”

The BFH will also help to attract more foreign investments, create jobs and will help maintain the Kingdom’s status as the leading financial centre in the region, he said.
